PROGRESS: Certification Type Code of Ethics Application Apprenticeship Final Exam Certification

Tobacconist University offers four Certified Tobacconist designations/degrees. Please click on the links below to learn more about each program.

All of our courses are self study so you can learn at your own pace and schedule your final exam when it is convenient for you. Our entire academic curriculum is available in our Campus and is composed of four colleges: Tobacco, Accoutrements, Taste, and Service. In addition, we have an FAQ section, Glossary, our blog, and youtube channel that provide additional educational resources. The curriculum is available for free to all consumers, professionals, and anyone who is interested.


Certified Consumer Tobacconist (CCT)

This non-professional certification is designed for avid consumer enthusiasts who are not employed within the cigar or pipe industry. TU encourages all CRT to provide special privileges and benefits to CCT. This select group of consumers have proven their knowledge and integrity by accepting the TU Code of Ethics & Standards and passing the final exam. CCT are the ultimate consumers!


Certified Retail Tobacconist (CRT)

This certification is designed for people who are employed at a retail tobacco shop. CRT are the world's most prestigious and credentialed professional tobacconists. CRT are the only professional retail tobacconists in the world who have proven their knowledge and committed to a professional Code of Ethics & Standards.


Certified Salesforce Tobacconist (CST)

This certification is designed for people who are employed directly or indirectly as a sales representative for a particular brand or company within the cigar or pipe industry.


Certified Master Tobacconist (CMT)

This certification is the highest level one can achieve as a Certified Professional Tobacconist. Only CRT and CST are eligible for this advanced degree. CST must prove hundreds of hours of apprenticeship with cigar makers and certified retailers as well as making a substantive educational contribution to the TU academic curriculum.


Certified Cigar Sommelier Tobacconist (CCST)

This professional certification is designed to serve the hospitality industry, including fine dining establishments, golf/country clubs, casino lounges, and wine/liquor/cocktail bars and stores. The curriculum and final exam is specially tailored to meet the service needs of these businesses and customers. This professional certification is only available to employees of participating companies.

Tobacconist Tip
Cellophane or not? It's up to you. Cellophane does breathe and inhibit moisture loss, so it does have advantages. But, so does letting cigars touch and age together.
