The manufacturer’s tube that many cigars come in provides excellent protection and humidity preservation.  It is possible for a cigar to maintain its optimal freshness for several weeks or more in an unopened tube.  The downside is that the cost of the tube will be incorporated into the price of the cigar so you will pay a premium for the protection.  In addition, it is not uncommon to find cigars with blemishes or minor defects packaged inside of cigar tubes, so buyer beware.
