CIGAR PRESS
After the binder and filler are bunched, they are placed in molds which will commit the tobacco to their shape. Molds were traditionally made of wood, but new plastic molds are quickly becoming popular as they are more durable and easier to keep clean.
Cigar molds are put into a press for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and then rotated. This happens three times to distribute and compress the tobacco without a visible seam. Cigars can be left in the press overnight without any harm being done to the them.
In some smaller and more boutique factories, bunching, pressing, and wrapping can be done by one person. Larger factories typically have bunchers and wrappers work seperately, with someone else pressing the cigars in between. This division of labor helps streamline production. The video below shows a factory with bunching stations on the left, pressing in the center, and wrapping stations on the right side.
